February: Heart Health Month and Recipe

February is American Heart Month. Coronary artery disease is the most common heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, “In 2016, 26.9% of adults did not engage in leisure-time physical activity. In the US, the prevalence of obesity among adults increased form 1999-2000 through 2013 to 2014 from 30.5% to 37.7%.”

These numbers need to decrease. Heart disease can change your life and your loved ones’ lives in profound ways. Taking the steps to begin an exercise regimen, improve your eating and your lifestyle could save your life.  SO…let’s start moving, eating healthy and lose that excess weight. Check out one of my favorite heart healthy Taco Soup recipes and our February Group Class Schedule. WE would love to see you at the gym to assist you in your nutrition and exercise goals.

Turkey Taco Soup

One-pound cooked Turkey ground
One Package of Taco seasoning – if you’re not making your own try to find a packet without a lot of extra fillers in it that you do not need.
1 can of black beans
2 cups of salsa
2 cups reduced sodium chicken broth
1 can rotel
1 cup of water

Mix together and add to your slower cooker and around 3-4 hours. I serve with a 1/4 of a medium avocado and a few Bean Chips.

Enjoy!
